For
seven years I looked after a very special young man with severe
physical and learning disabilities. I was heartbroken by his sudden
death in 2010 following a short illness, and rather than agreeing to
a new care role, I sought to retrain into a new career path.
Personal
training leapt out at me, I have always been a gym enthusiast, and
enjoyed my time as a footballer in local leagues. I have therefore
held an interest in health and fitness over many years, and the
opportunity to focus my new career in this area was too tempting to
turn down.
I
undertook the Exercise Referral training course immediately after
qualifying, and I quickly decided this was something I wanted to
specialise in. Merging my medical past with a fitness-based future
made a lot of sense, and I have always harboured a burning desire to
help people.
I
am a self-confessed workaholic, but in my spare time I enjoy
football, long-distance running, working out in the gym, visiting
sites of historical interest, travelling around the country, and
reading. Of course I also enjoy socialising with friends, watching
television and listening to music whenever I get the opportunity to
unwind!
I
thoroughly enjoy coaching people, love the rapport and banter between
myself and my client, and I take a lot of pride in seeing results
emerge in my clients, especially in people who were close to giving
up hope. I take great pride in seeing how much my clients enjoy their
workouts, whilst recognising how they have worked harder and smarter
in the time-frame than they would have if left to their own devices.
I take my client sessions extremely seriously - it is your time,
goals and money at the end of the day - but we always have a lot of
fun and plenty of laughs along the way. Why not give it a try and
see?
I
have recently entered into a partnership with the cancer charity
FORCE to provide Cancer Rehabilitation, and with the Torbay Exercise
Referral team to provide 'graduate exercise continuation classes' for
GP-referred clients who have completed their ten-week basic
programme. I am also in advanced talks to provide partnership work
with the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Arthritis UK and The Stroke
Association. Please see each relevant page for further details.
